Norwegian Cruise Line Buys Ship It Already Operates
Really? Learn something new every day - Sue
Norwegian Cruise Line is purchasing the Norwegian Sky, which it has been operating under a charter, the cruise company said Friday.
Norwegian signed a memorandum of agreement to exercise its option to buy the 2,002-passenger ship from Ample Avenue, a subsidiary of Genting Hong Kong. Genting owns 50% of the Miami-based cruise line.
The price for the ship, which was built in 1999: about $260 million. The deal is expected to close soon, the company said.
Norwegian Sky sails short trips to the Bahamas from Miami year-round. It is the only ship in the cruise operator’s fleet with that arrangement.
